eclipse: parallel predicament

from moon summer by towards the forest

/

lyrics

[moon witch]:
i began to bleed;
anxious to please.
an impulse to speak
before i get weak—
then, above the trees
so, too, the moon did seep.
a discovery:
we share a body.
below, the earth was waiting
for the acheiropoieton.
i saw them stare up vacant
as if their nerve was taken.

[solstice]:
i spread my hair onto the water.
reached for my reflection;
it's what i could offer.
i tumbled in and swam swiftly under
in your general direction;
the moon was my altar.

[moon witch]:
i knew a half-sweetness
in my incompleteness
i fall to my knees and
then i syncope—

[solstice]:
my body kept moving
as if it were blooming.
i forgot "together."
"apart" i remember.

[moon witch]:
......................

[solstice]:
i started to sink;
reluctant to be asleep.
a new dream untrained
after i am renamed.

[moon witch]:
i wake to hear you
in the water
somehow plashless
i can't stop bleeding!

[solstice]:
the world was inverted
below the surface
it felt familiar
down here in the river
all of this searching
that i had been yearning
was finally here and
then i disappeared.

[moon witch]:
i left a
trail of
seeds that
wouldn’t grow
until i did, i do.
i forfeit;
my form split.
i became
again.

[solstice]:
i came to the surface
bewildered but certain
that something had changed.
was this prearranged?

[moon witch]:
you can explain it
a thousand ways but
i’ll still wonder.
i’ll always wonder.

[together, but apart]:
how will i ever tell?
will the words compel?
where will we meet once more?
what can our songs explore?

[the moon]:
you will betray each other!
you will lose your way!
do not fret: just listen to
what each other has to say.
love is trust, honesty, and understanding.
it's as simple as that.
just work in tandem.
forgive each other!
especially when you fail
to find the words to explain—
then you will prevail.
i am not saying there won't be pain;
this is living.
but do not let it control you;
keep on singing!
